Late Night Rant #1 – Good Vibrations

Vibrations are the subject of todays rant. We hear the term vibrations all the time, but what does it actually mean? ‘Good vibrations’ is probably one of the most famous phrases popularized within the subject, being the focal point of several popular songs throughout the years and probably referenced in many other areas. In essence vibrations are a feeling, a way of life that one embodies that can be sensed and observed by others. If someone likes the vibrations you are giving off, then this can be described as good vibrations. Simple enough, right? Well, this is what I thought until I read Punpun, and then again after doing some research into ceremonial magick. What I’ve discovered is that vibrations are something that each one of us gives off based on our composition and energy we bring to the world, and we can channel these vibrations to do amazing things if controlled properly.

In Punpun, this is mainly described from our cult leader friend Pegasus. Pegasus has such a strong vibrational energy that he can communicate directly with the higher powers in nature, which warns him of the coming destruction. Already this is crazy, and of course it’s a comic, but there’s some real power behind this. One thing that is often dismissed is that Pegasus actually joined very powerful people together because of his charismatic energy, which plays into the passing on of vibrations kind of theory. He finds people that have resonating vibrations, then uses their combined powers to amplify their message. I think the greatest visual for this is the orchestra he creates with his small crew on the rooftop, where there’s a seemingly impossible display of lights and stars around this orchestra playing some of the most beautiful music imaginable. At the center of it all is Pegasus, lost in a trance of organizing these melodies to one vibration. It’s a great scene, and if you can find it you’ll understand why I say that. But what does this all mean? Well, Pegasus is the leader of a group that has been brought together by his brilliance and general charisma. People see something in him and choose to follow him. Not only that, but in return Pegasus gives them all the opportunity to flourish spiritually by opening them up to the idea of a higher mystery to solve, and giving themselves up for this endeavor. I’m not saying to go out and join a cult, but maybe there’s something to the idea of following someone with a true passion and vision. His vibrations, his natural energy, created a beautiful symphony with the people around him because he trusted, cared for and loved them all, and in return they did the same. Those vibrations are what saved their world, and I suppose that kind of energy is nothing to be scoffed at.

The more realistic version of this is the ceremonial magick version, or at least as far as I know as someone with only a handful of hours studying it on my own. In my basic understanding, vibrations are something of an oral tradition of teachings passed down from teacher to student. These vibrations contain a foundational understanding of our world and help us attain enlightenment with the help of teachers passing along the right vibrations. As such, vibrations are a conceptual knowledge and aura of understanding that one can attain with help from someone that already has the vibrations. This is why it’s important to have a teacher, and a good one that you admire, because their knowledge can be passed to you with the right training. This goes all the way back to ancient Mesopotamia, or honestly even earlier if you’re just looking at the concept of master to student. But specifically looking at the type to push our spiritual awareness, this is a concept that humans have been experimenting with for thousands of years. Through trial and error, people have discovered that vibrations, or this oral tradition, can be passed down much easier than it can be obtain on its own through sheer willpower. Of course it’s possible to obtain this vibration on your own, but its significantly harder to do without a frame to build around or an idea of what you’re doing in general. This is why finding someone to help you push past your limits is so important, because on your own you don’t have the vibrational energy to break the mold as quickly as someone who already has the energy can. Simply put, you need to surround yourself with people with the vibrations you want in order to get those vibrations yourself.

If I’m being honest I’m sure that has almost nothing to do with ceremonial magick, but that’s what I gathered from Duncan Trussel’s interview with Damien Echols. Anyways, it made me think that a lot of things in life are more connected than meets the eye. We just put a lot of fancy words and titles on things to make them seem unique. Which is obviously totally fine, but makes you wonder how different all these philosophies really are, if all the religions out there really have the same message, that sort of thing. At the end of the day, aren’t all religions just passing along good vibrations?

Until next time, peace everybody.
